The DOT team is incredibly honored to win the award for the SDG Business category, for our impact on the people at the “Bottom of the Pyramid” around the world. This is a powerful validation of our innovative approach to vision, and it further boosts our commitment to bring better vision to the more than 1 billion people around the world who need glasses, but can’t afford them or have no access to them.
We’ve been approved as a member of Business Call to Action (BCtA) – a platform hosted by the UNDP. This serves as a high-profile confirmation of our leadership in inclusive business and commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). DOT Glasses is the first business from the Czech Republic to achieve this honor.
BCtA challenges companies to develop inclusive business models that engage people at the base of the economic pyramid (BoP) as consumers, producers, suppliers, distributors of goods and services and employees. Over 250 companies, ranging from multinationals (including the likes of Diageo, Essilor, Mastercard and Novartis) to social enterprises, and working in 82 countries, have so far responded to the Business Call to Action by committing to improve the lives and livelihoods of millions. BCtA member companies are recognized as market leaders that provide examples of successful, profitable and scalable models for reaching poor communities and contributing to global development.

of EYElliance – a multi-sector coalition that drives the global strategy to increase access to eyeglasses at scale in order to reach millions of people living with poor vision around the world.
We feel excited and privileged to be selected as a finalist for the Katerva Awards (the ‘Nobel prize for sustainability’ according to Reuters) in the Health & Wellbeing category! Nominees are a new breed of companies showing how innovation can be scaled for both business opportunities and social impact. Every year, thousands of proposals are submitted to the Katerva award council which selects winners in each of 10 categories. We are proud to be part of such distinguished family! Our CEO Philip Staehelin had the pleasure to pitch DOT Glasses in Paris at the ChangeNOW Summit (the World Expo of innovations for the planet)! We’re grateful that we could be a part of such a great event, where we met lots of incredibly passionate people trying to make an impact in the world. Together, we are proving that the only limit to our impact is our imagination and commitment.
The new design for children frames is out and they come in colors! We had the chance to test some 3D printed prototypes in Madagascar. The partner pilots were run with our new vision kits in 6 different scenarios in remote locations with extremely poor infrastructure but the DOT Glasses approach enables simple eye care for even the most challenging places on earth.
Our “Vision kits” have been successfully tested. Our smaller kit for vision entrepreneurs with 20 pairs of eyeglasses and the bigger kit for 120 eyeglasses to process the large volume of people easily. Setting up a vision camp takes only 10 minutes!
